Note from the Underground
A Quick Note from the Underground
Have I seen this before? Yes, I borrowed it from Dostoevsky’s Notes from Underground. The astute and hypercritical reader will already have noted that it’s "Note," not "Notes," and "from the Underground," not simply "Underground." And really, who cares? I guess if there’s a legal issue, I have a loophole. That’s funny.
I like the title even though I have tried to read the book forty-three times. I get close. Not really. But I pretend to get close.
I like the title because, as a psychotherapist, I attempt to see things through an unconscious lens. That’s basically it. "Underground" represents my perspective of the things churning beneath the surface of conscious reality. I won't dwell on the theory nor push it too hard in my observations, thoughts, and note(s). I think Dostoevsky was coming from a similar place—reading NFU, you get the feeling he’s basically free-associating.
The title is also an homage to the grit, grime, and dark shadows that lurk in the sewers of our soul. It’s danky in there.
Let’s explore...
